Under the Tiers — 8 Ply Superwash
The Mole Creek Collection, on a hard-wearing DK. Ten tonal semi-solids, dyed on an 85% superwash wool / 15% nylon 8 ply — 225 m per 100 g, machine washable, and built to take a beating.
Everything in this collection came off the same hillside. The limestone under the paddocks, the sage-grey light under the man ferns, the leatherwood honey, the one bird you can never photograph, and a hole in the plateau with two hundred metres of air under it.
Sassafras, Leatherwood, Celery Top and Horizontal run to six skeins, Karst to five — enough for a garment out of a single run. The other five are three-skein lots. The tonal pairs (Sassafras with Karst, Man Fern with Meander, Celery Top with Horizontal) come from one dye mix at two depths, which is the only honest way to get shades that genuinely gradate.
Two of these weren't planned. Celery Top and Horizontal came out of a jug that was mixed wrong, and they were good enough to keep. That happens in a working dyeshed more often than anyone admits.
Dyed on the Lanaset system for wet fastness, because there is no point making a machine-washable yarn that can't survive the machine.
No speckles. No neons. Just ten colours that go together, dyed by hand in small immersion lots in a working dyeshed at Mole Creek, Tasmania.
