Description

The most recent addition to the Majacraft range, this wheel combines form and function, and is an absolute pleasure to spin on.

The Luna crank system is based on the Little Gem but has some new twists. Thanks to the reorientation of the drive wheel, the spinning experience is incredibly stable. The scotch tension is both simple to use and common to Majacraft wheels.

The Luna's laminated drive wheel with a hardboard centre allows the drive wheel to be both quite heavy and mechanically stable. This gives Luna extra inertia which makes spinning on her very smooth.

Luna comes with four of Majacraft's standard black bobbins and uses a round orifice fine flyer.

Features of the Luna include:

  • Uses special Majacraft cast hinges
  • Ratios extend from 5.9 to 16.7 with the standard pulley
  • JCB bolts used in most structural connections for simple assembly and beautiful smooth lines
  • Uses the dependable scotch tension for smooth and easy spinning.
  • Primarily constructed in beautiful and environmentally friendly bamboo

All Majacraft wheels are made to order. Luna currently has a 14-16 week wait period.

Sourcing & Materials

Sustainable sourcing

The equipment I stock comes from makers I respect — Ashford, Schacht, Majacraft — who build things designed to last decades, not seasons. The fibre is Tasmanian where I can source it, because buying from down the road is the most straightforward version of this. I won't stock something I don't believe in, which means the range is deliberately small.

What I'd use myself

Everything in the store has been through the same filter: would I use this myself? If the answer is no, it doesn't make it onto the website. That means the range is deliberately narrow — there are no products here to fill a gap or round out a catalogue. What's here is here because I'd stake my own time and reputation on it.

Wool miles

Fibre has a journey before it reaches you — where it was grown, where it was shorn, where it was processed, and how far it travelled at each stage. I think you deserve to know that. Where I can tell you the origin, I will. Where I can source locally, I do. This isn't a marketing position — it's just what honest dealing looks like.
